Bags are Packed, and We're Ready to Go! - Early March 17, 2011

Anticipation is great as we're just a few hours away from departure! 1:05 am and both of us are relatively done with packing. I felt less nervous about this trip than any other AWOL trip, probably because I have way less people to coordinate!

I spent a good chunk of the day finding readings for our drive and reflection. The Internet is such an amazing tool to do this.The highlight of my day occurred when checking the mail, which I think we hadn't done in a few days. Paging through and sorting through all the emails, I was delighted to find several "fun" pieces of mail for myself - postcards from USD AWOL's 2011 spring trips! I cannot express in words how awesome it was to get these treasures, especially today, right before we leave!

I also had the opportunity for a quick chat with Samantha Giacobozzi, Programs Coordinator for Break Away. Break Away is an amazing national organization that supports colleges in implementing alternative break trips. I've had the privilege of working with Sam and the Executive Director Jill Piacitelli for the past few years. They are amazing people that do amazing work, check them out sometime!

6am is our planned departure time. Lets hope we don't forget anything too important...I always forget something!
